SOP just needs more refresher courses – police

KUALA LUMPUR: The current police Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) is adequate and just needs more refresher courses in self-defence, Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Eradication Department Director Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob said today.

“Our SOP is adequate but just needs more refresher courses on a consistent basis.

“Our officers and personnel are equipped with the latest weapons so their self-defence techniques need to be always up to date,” he told reporters when queried as to whether the existing SOP had any weaknesses.

He was commenting about the incident involving a lance corporal and constable, 26 and 28, who were critically wounded after being shot by a suspect in Taman Lembah Maju, Ampang, last Friday.

On a separate note he said the police will collaborate with 19 government and non-governmental agencies (NGO) to raise public awareness on crimes against the environment through a two-day ‘Save The Nature’ programme starting this Saturday at Maktab PDRM, Cheras here.

Among the agencies and NGOs involved are the Environment Department, Fisheries Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and World Wildlife Federation of Malaysia. — BERNAMA
