Duo claim trial to causing hurt

KUCHING: Three men charged with two counts of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to two men early this month claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday.

The accused persons Mohd Ramshah Ramlan, 23, Mohd Sukmarulnizam Ademan, 23, and Mohamad Fadilah, 34, appeared before Judge Allaudeen Ismail who fixed May 20 for further mention of the case.

Ramshah was released on a RM6,000 cash bail while Sukmarulnizam and Fadilah were released on a bail of RM4,000 in two sureties each pending the disposal of the case. They were also ordered to present themselves at the nearest police station every month.

The trio allegedly caused hurt to two men with a parang around 6.30pm on April 6 in front of a college at Muara Tabuan with three other persons still at large.

They will be tried under Section 326 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Act which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping or fine.

The brief facts of the case stated that the complainant who is a friend of one of the victims lodged a report that the two victims, who were both 19 years old, had been attacked by a group of motorcyclists at the five-foot-way of the building.

Following the report, the accused persons were picked up from several places in the city for questioning.

One of the victims allegedly sustained a serious cut on his head while the other victim had a deep wound believed to be caused by a sharp object.

DPP Stella Augustine Druce prosecuted while none of the accused was represented by a counsel.
