KUCHING: The police have not received any police report regarding the disappearance of a girl which was being spread over Facebook yesterday.

District police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad said that as of 3pm yesterday, the police did not have the full facts of the case as the girl’s family had yet to make a report.

“I have instructed my officer to check on the matter, including checking Facebook for the said postings.

“However, I can confirm there has been no police report lodged on the matter,” he said.

The posting, which was being shared on Facebook and whatsapp, said that a white Toyota Avanza bearing Sibu licence plate
‘went missing in Kota Samarahan area with a young girl inside’, prompting many to assume that a carjacking or kidnapping had occurred.

However, a call to one of the phone numbers listed in the posting, purportedly belonging to a family member, revealed
that the ‘young girl’ was a
25-year-old university student who failed to return home the night before.

In a related development, family members yesterday found the Avanza at a commercial centre along Jalan Song, but had yet to spot the missing student as of press time.
