ALOR GAJAH: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will  implement the use of automatic transmission vehicles for driving tests in June.

Its deputy director-general, Datuk Yusoff Ayob said the delay was due to technical problems involving the printing of the driving education curriculum.

“The printing of the book could not be completed on schedule,” he told reporters after closing the ‘Satu Komuniti Satu JPJ’ (SKSJ) programme for Gadek state constituency, here yesterday.

The RTD had planned to implement the use of automatic vehicles for driving tests on April 1.

Yusoff said the book, to be printed 600,000 copies annually, contains two syllabus, one for manual vehicle users and the other for automatic vehicle users.

“The book is expected to be distributed to driving schools in May before driving test for automatic vehicle users can be fully implemented in June.”

He said that all instructors of driving schools were undergoing a course on giving driving lessons to users of automatic vehicles.

Earlier, 321 motorcyclists received B2 licence from State Exco member for Company Affairs, Human Resources and NGOs, Datuk MS Mahadevan.

Some 2,182 people in Melaka have obtained the B2 licence under the SKSJ programme since it was implemented in 2009. — Bernama
