MIRI: A friendly and stable government willing to work together with the private sector has resulted in fast-paced development in the state and in Miri in particular.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman said that without good communication and understanding, it is utterly impossible to see such encouraging progress happening here, thus it was important for both government and private sectors to reach mutual understanding to develop the state into a modern city.

“Of course, if we leave everything to the government, we wouldn’t be able to see as much development happening today, thus we credit all of this to the private sector, corporate groups and businessmen who are willing to invest and put their faith in the state.

“The private sector’s developing activities such as shop houses and shopping complexes have been quite a common sight recently, which I believe the community at large, would surely benefit from this unique development.

“While the government, on the one hand, is assisting by upgrading the necessary infrastructure like road, street lightings, etc,” he remarked in his speech at a ground-breaking ceremony in Senadin yesterday.

Later, Daud who was joined by other VIP guests including Communications Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Mayor Lawrence Lai and Green Summit chief executive officer James Hii Sing Lung, braved a heavy downpour to commence the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony.

Despite the overcast day, over 300 invited guests stayed on to the end of the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Daud also addressed a congratulatory note to Green Summit on its upcoming mixed development project, the Senadin Gateway, which is scheduled to commence this May.

Expected to be completed within two years, the Senadin Gateway would be built in three phases, and in total would have 104 units of three and four-storey shop houses.

The 64 units of three and four storey shop houses under Phase One are scheduled to be completed in 18 months while a shopping mall to be built under same phase, is scheduled to open its doors by end of 2016.

Hii revealed that by the third quarter of construction, more shop houses will be completed and ready to open to the public.

“The whole project will fetch a Gross Development Value (GDV) exceeding RM200 million, and it is believed the birth of Senadin Gateway will redefine the neighbouring landscape and improve the lifestyle of Mirians and Brunei tourists,” he said before adding that sales have registered more than 80 per cent of commercial shop houses sold.
