Taib in Lawas to open Perkim Sarawak’s 26th AGM

An Iban traditional welcome for Taib and Ragad upon their arrival in Lawas yesterday.

LAWAS: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi-Taib was given a warm welcome when they arrived here yesterday.

Taib is here to officiate at the 26th annual general meeting (AGM) of Perkim Sarawak, which is led by his daughter Datuk Hanifah H. Taib Alsree.

On hand to receive them were Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud and about 1,500 people.

Also present were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, who is the minister-in-attendance during the two-day visit, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and Minister of Welfare, Family Development and Early Child Education Datuk Fatimah Abdullah. This is the first time Perkim Sarawak held its AGM outside Kuching.

The delegates visited Kampung Awat Awat and enjoyed a river cruise and sampled the local ‘Tahai’ smoked fish dish and other delicacies while at this fishing settlement, which is located at the mouth of Trusan River overlooking the Bay of Brunei.

They attended Friday prayers at Awat Awat Mosque, followed by ‘tahlil’ prayers at Lawas Ma’amor mosque in the evening.

The opening ceremony was held last night at the Lawas Indoor Stadium, but earlier in the day the delegates attended a seminar.
