KUCHING: A 60-year-old cyclist sustained serious head injuries in an accident near a roundabout at Mile 5 in Matang near here on Saturday night.

In the 8pm incident, the man was cycling back from his work place at Hui Sing here.

The victim, who stays at Flat Dahlia in Matang, was apparently rammed from the rear by a car, driven by a man said to be living in the same neighbourhood, about 200 metres from the roundabout.

The impact flung him off the bicycle and hit the bonnet before falling on the road.

Passers-by who witnessed the incident immediately called 911 for assistance and the victim who fractured his skull was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital by Civil Defence personnel.

Not long after the first incident, another cyclist, a 14-year-old boy, was involved in a collision with a car exiting from a junction.

He was also sent to the hospital for a treatment.

In a separate case, a 46-year-old woman suffered internal bleeding in the head while her 43-year-old husband sustained cuts on the chin from an accident early yesterday morning.

The husband, an army personnel, was said to have lost control of his motorcycle and skidded somewhere near Jalan Kota Sentosa.

The couple, who initially received treatment at Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan, was transferred to the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment at around 1am.
