SETIU: A man sustained head injuries after being beaten by a fellow villager with an iron rod during a fight over a debt of RM40 on Saturday.

Setiu police chief DSP Ab Rahman Raja Mohamed said the 7.30pm incident occured when 38-year-old victim was walking alone in the village in Bukit Kecil, Cahok, near here.

“The victim is believed to have owed the money to the suspect and had been hesitating to repay the debt,” he told reporters after attending the Setiu Police Shooting Competition in conjunction with the 207th Police Day at the Lembah Bidong shooting range here.

Ab Rahman said the victim received an outpatient treatment at Setiu Hospital before lodging a police report about the incident at 8.30 pm.

He said police were in the midst of tracking down the 41-year-old suspect, who fled the village after the incident.

Meanwhile, Ab Rahman said a man suffered losses of RM4,000 after being cheated into believing that the Customs Department was selling seized laptop computers and mobile phone at cheap prices.

He said the man was contacted by the informant at 10 pm last Thursday and paid for the alleged items through the Internet before realising that he was cheated. — Bernama
