KOTA KINABALU: Sipitang Chinese Chamber of Commerce committee members have displayed unity and cohesion in their effort to transform the chamber.

Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) president Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah said the Sipitang chamber had recently held its election peacefully, and the fact that its immediate past president was also included in the committee indicated the unity of the chamber.

He hoped that under the leadership of its new president, Yeo Boon Kiat, the Sipitang chamber would carry out its affairs smoothly and forge closer ties with SUCCC.

Gan said this during a courtesy call by the committee of the Sipitang chamber led by Yeo here yesterday. Also present were SUCCC secretary general Datuk Ling Tiong Chai and Tambunan Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Dato’ Oi Thiam Beng.

Gan also vowed to do his best to assist the chamber in realizing its dream of having its own secretariat.
The Sipitang Chinese Chamber of Commerce is currently renting a shoplot for RM750 monthly to be used as its secretariat.

Gan also said SUCCC would soon have its own secretariat in three years’ time after 60 years of establishment.

City Point Complex, a joint development between SUCCC, United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCA) and Arah Permai Sdn Bhd, will celebrate its groundbreaking ceremony in June this year, he said.

Meanwhile, Yeo said the purpose of the courtesy call was to invite Gan as the guest of honour for the chamber’s 14th installation ceremony at SFI Motel in Sipitang on May 9.

He said the chamber’s plan to acquire a shoplot as its secretariat must be implemented soon in view of the rising property prices in Sipitang.
