KOTA BAHARU: Since its inception 10 years ago, Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd (Takaful Ikhlas) has attracted two million policyholders, with 180,000 of them being non-Muslims.

Chairman Sharkawi Alis said this proved the company’s products were not only of high quality and attractive to non-Muslims but the advantages offered were comparable with that of other companies.

“They are with us because our products are good. Takaful does not cater to only Muslims, but also to non-Muslims.

“They (non-Muslims) assess our products in terms of benefits. They must first see if the product are good… Four years ago we had 120,000 non-Muslim subscribers and that has grown to 180,000.

“We are confident of attracting more subscribers,” he told reporters after opening Takaful Ikhlas’s regional office here.

He said the company’s revenue stood at RM6.6 million six months after its operations.

“Today, Takaful raked in RM747 million for the financial year ended March 31, 2013 a 100-fold increase in just 10 years, “ he added.

Sharkawi said the company had also garnered a 11 per cent share of the takaful market in the country.

He said the MNRB Holdings Bhd subsidiary also managed to gain international  recognition by winning the ‘Best Takaful Product Award’ at Takaful Summit International 2010.

The company also bagged the ‘Most Innovative Product Award’ by Islamic Finance Forum 2008.

With 5,000 agents nationwide, Takaful Ikhlas offers 83 products ranging from general takaful, family and group takaful .

Sharkawi added that the company would launch a new product in December that would ‘rock’ the takaful market.

“I will not reveal details of the product yet, just that it will definitely make an impression on the market,” he said.

On the achievement of the Kelantan regional office, Sharkawi said as of Feb 28, 2014, revenue exceeded RM30 million.

“For the financial year 2014 to 2015, our Kelantan operations will contribute about RM34.1 million to group revenue, an increase of 13.5 per cent,” he said. — Bernama
