Kota Bahru bound Firefly flight returns to Penang due to faulty landing gear

KUALA LUMPUR: Firefly Airlines today confirmed that its flight FY1002, that departed from Penang International Airport at 6.55 am for Kota Bahru today had turned back and landed safely in Penang at 7.30am.

The flight, which was a codeshare with Malaysia Airlines flight MH9948, was unable to retract its landing gear after being airborne, Firefly said in a statement here.

It said that all 64 passengers and four crew on board had disembarked from the aircraft.

“As safety is of utmost priority to Firefly Airlines, the aircraft was required to turn back to Penang.

“This was a normal landing, therefore, the airport Fire Rescue Services was not required to be deployed,” the statement said.

It added that the flight was retimed and had departed from Penang at 8.50am and arrived safety in Kota Bahru at 9.50am earlier today. – Bernama
