Thai AirAsia X launches direct flights to Korea and Japan

KUCHING: Thai AirAsia X, Thailand’s first low-cost, long-haul carrier, has officially launched daily direct flights from Bangkok Don Mueang Airport (DMK) to Seoul Incheon International Airport which will begin from June 17 onwards.

Upcoming destinations for the airline also include direct flights from Bangkok to Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai, the airline said in a press statement.

Newly appointed chief executive officer of Thai AirAsia X; Nadda Buranasiri stated, “While Thai AirAsia’s Airbus A320 planes continue to offer the best connectivity for short-haul destinations within the country and region, Thai AirAsia X will be operating Airbus A330-300 wide-body aircraft to destinations that are further than a four hour flight time from Bangkok Don Mueang Airport.

“Our new potential to reach further destinations while still offering the same low fares will strengthen AirAsia’s extensive route network and create more affordable long-haul travel opportunities from Bangkok.”

AirAsia X will also launch its first commercial flight from Bangkok to Seoul Incheon on June 17, Nadda added, underscoring his confidence that there is enormous demand for this route.

“Last year, visitors from South Korea ranked in the top five nationalities of visitors to Thailand at 1.3 million people. This year, we look forward to a positive growth for South Korean visitors and we are very proud to contribute to the increased number of available seats for visitor arrivals to Thailand.

“Due to the visa exemption agreement for Thai passport holders, Seoul is an accessible and affordable destination for many Thai people.”

Thai AirAsia X’s daily flights to Seoul will be operated by the Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with a total of 377 seats; 365 of which are economy class seats, and 12 of which are Premium Flatbed and the airline will operate with the same low-cost model as AirAsia Bhd.

“To celebrate the official launch of Thai AirAsia X, X-citing fares from Bangkok-Seoul are available starting from 1,990 Thai baht per way (inclusive of tax and fees).

“ Tickets must be booked on www.airasia.com from April 23 to May 3, 2014 for travel during June 17, 2014 to April 30, 2015,” the airline said, noting that the promotional fares are limited, terms and conditions apply.

Upcoming destinations for Thai AirAsia X in 2014 include direct flights between Bangkok Don Mueang to Tokyo and Osaka Kansai, however, Thai AirAsia X noted that more details would be announced in the near future.
