JOHOR BAHARU: The emergency service previously provided to the handicapped through the SaveME 999’ application, will be extended to the public this June.

Bukit Aman Police Logistics Department director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said the government through the Communication and Multimedia Ministry, had agreed to extend the free application, which aimed to use only one system throughout the country to manage emergency calls.

“In Johor, there is the ‘Community Alerts’ application while in Selangor, there is ‘My Distress’. So now we only want one emergency button which is standardised throughout the country to manage emergency calls,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after visiting the Larkin Police Station here yesterday. Also present was the Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.

Zulkifli said further discussions were being held on the extent of the application, which would hopefully help the police in being more effective.

Zulkifli also said the police together with the private sector would study the upgrading of the closed-circuit television usage to improve surveillance. — Bernama
