BINTULU: The Bintulu Smart Taekwondo Club exponents bagged seven gold, six silver and six bronze medals in the first United Taekwondo Sabah Association (WTF) President Cup Taekwondo Championship 2014.
The event was held from April 17-20 at Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
It was participated by over 1,350 athletes from Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Federal Territory of Labuan and Brunei.
The team from Bintulu was led by Dayang Sapura Awang Mahmood, Shamsiah Bujang Ismail as team manager and Pui Jak Joon, Katini Medik as coaches.
Six gold medals were from the Poomsae event.
The gold medals were contributed by Alya Farzana Asari from SK Agama (9-11 years old); Stanley Law Sie Lee from SM Kai Dee (12-14 years old); Debbie Isabelle Padi Guianan from SMK Bandar (15-17 years old); Ahmady Radi from Gym Taekwondo Medan Raya (18
years old and above); Iffah Syahirah Abd Hanif (SK Assyakirin), Dayang Syakirah Khadra Awang Daud (SJK Chung Hua),Alya Farzana Asari (SK Agama) in the Team Poomsae 9-11 years old; Augustine Rudi Groser (SMK Assyakirin), Scott Samuel Divers (SMK Bandar) and Stanley Law Sie Lee in the Team Poomsae 15-17 years old.
Another one gold medal was won by Scoot Samuel Divers in the sparring event (Middle 68Kg-73KG).
Pui said the outing was very good as their first target is only three gold medals.
