The government has approved the establishment of three General Operations Force (PGA) battalions and four police stations to enhance security in areas under Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim told the senate, three new camps for the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) would also be established in Felda Sahabat (Lahad Datu), Semporna and Sikuati.

“Assets such as boats, aircraft and high-tech helicopters will be added while the three camps will provide office space and housing to facilitate ATM operations,” he said replying to a question from Senator Datuk Raja Ropiah Raja Abdullah who asked whether all assets used in Sabah waters are the most advanced to ensure national security.

The Marine Police had been supplied with patrol boats and speedboats and the assets would be added from time to time.

The Radar Surveillance System Initiative 1206 in several locations in the Sabah east coast would also be upgraded and new radars would be installed. — Bernama
