KUCHING: Local magazine ‘Happenings in Sarawak’ has the potential to go global following its collaboration with Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Promotion of Technical Education) Datu Len Talif Salleh said the publication by Conqueror’s Vision Sdn Bhd (CVSB) could spread its wings to not just Peninsular Malaysia but also across the globe given that Limkokwing is an international university.
“I am sure it will go further, not only within Sarawak but it could be all over the world. Limkokwing students around the world including those in Botswana and Sierra Leone can grab a copy of the magazine,” he said before witnessing the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among CVSB, Limkokwing and Unimas at Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology at Jalan Nanas here yesterday.

Limkokwing has over 30,000 students from more than 160 countries studying in its 12 campuses in Malaysia-Botswana, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Sierra Leone, Yemen and the United Kingdom.
Earlier, director of CVSB Dato Patrick Liew said the magazine is now themed ‘From the youths and for the youths’.
For the last three years, he said ‘Happenings in Sarawak’ had been well-received by both the locals and visitors amid strong support from OurYouth.my – a youth development-centred web-portal also initiated by CVSB.
“So we changed our platform, and have a new theme,” he said, adding the inaugural ‘From the youths and for the youths’ publication would be released next month.
Liew pointed out most of the articles for the forthcoming issue were contributed by students of Limkokwing and Unimas.

“I hope they can be proud of it as this is the publication from them and for them.”
Meanwhile, Limkokwing Borneo Operations Development (Business) Industry manager Salleh Mohidin, took pride in the institution having taken another step forward in providing youths with the opportunity to showcase their creativity and talents through its strategic collaboration with the magazine.
“This initiative between both Limkokwing Borneo and CVSB is extremely beneficial for our students as they will be given the opportunity to work in real settings, allowing them to really understand the workings of the industry.”
He added this was in line with the university’s distinctive industry programme that allowed students to fully appreciate and experience a well-rounded education.
Every student would be able to contribute towards the magazine and see their work being acknowledged by the community, he said.
‘Happenings in Sarawak’ is a free public magazine which aims to promote the rich diversities of Sarawak to a greater crowd and to unveil all that makes the local community unique.
Since its establishment over six years ago, more than 100,000 copies have been circulated.
