KOTA KINABALU: The 1M4U Volunteer Programme could serve as an effective platform to encourage the youth to get involved in community services and to help towards producing a balanced and sivic minded generation, said State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman.

“It is hoped that the youth participation in this programme would be able to elevate the image of youths,” he said when officiating at the 1M4U Volunteer Programme organized by Puspanita at the State Assembly Building here, yesterday.

He said that 78 youths participated in the programme, which also saw 30 military personnel donating blood to help replenish the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) stock.

The programme was also in line with the government’s strategy to promote the Blue Ocean approach in human capital development.

Meanwhile, Puspanita Sabah chairperson Datin Sri Hairani Hussaini said the 1M4U Volunteer Programme was also seen as a catalyst for promoting non-governmental organization (NGO) development.

She said the programme was aimed at promoting awareness among the younger generation on the importance of getting involved in associations that would provide them with opportunities to participate in community service activities.

She said seven youths from Keningau Handicraft Centre were invited to demonstrate their arts at the event.
