KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology is giving its full support to Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association (SWEPA) in its mission to prepare the community, especially women, to chart their success in both their professional and personal life.

Beginning October last year, SWEPA has organized a series of workshops funded by the ministry named ‘Empowering Our Community Through Quality Learning’ consisting of eight modules, in which the third module of the workshop was held at Novotel, 1Borneo, yesterday.

The workshops focus on interpersonal skills and self-awareness, which according to the President of SWEPA, Datin Jeanette Tambakau, are the two skills that are relevant in human resource development because leadership, decision-making, creativity and presentation skills are essential for entrepreneurial success and for maximizing human capital in enterprise.

“It is hoped that the participants will create self-awareness on attitude and inner power, bring sustainable change in life and create an empowered community with leadership qualities, character, personality and poised with interpersonal skills,” Jeanette added during the opening of the third module yesterday.

Meanwhile, Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat said that the despite having a low budget, his ministry will continue to support SWEPA in their workshop series to help the community develop both technical and soft skills.

“The government is also making strides in the development of entrepreneurship and through many avenues in this endeavour, we now see more entrepreneurs in the youth and amongst women,” Siringan said.

He also pointed out that there are many training programs conducted by the government for the youth for example the Domestic Manager program, Youth Leadership and Transformation programs, and also training on interview and interpersonal skills amongst the youths.

“Collaborating and supporting SWEPA today is one of the successful avenues we see,” he stated in his opening speech before launching the workshop, yesterday.

Also present at the event was the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Bruno Vun.
