PERTH: The planned air and surface search operation for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the Indian Ocean continued yesterday after it was suspended  due to deteriorating weather.

The Joint Agency Coordination Centre said up to nine military aircraft and 12 ships were assigned to assist yesterday search which had entered day 52.

The agency which oversees the search operation, here, said that Monday’s search area involved a total of approximately 54,921 square kilometres with its centre located approximately 1667 km north-west from here.

Meanwhile, for the focused underwater search, the Perth-based agency said that it would be continued by the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Bluefin-21 in its mission 16 which had commenced early yesterday.

As to date, no contact of interest had been found yet, the agency added. — Bernama
