Two face four drug possession charges

SIBU: A 46-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were tentatively charged with four counts of drug possession at the magistrates’ court here yesterday.

No plea was taken from Hou Tai Luong and Peggy Cho who are to appear in court again for the further mention of their case on June 4.

The duo faces three charges of drug possession under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The section carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a maximum jail term of five years or both upon conviction.

The fourth charge was under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same act read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The section provides for imprisonment for life or not less than five years, with not less than 10 strokes of whipping upon conviction.

The duo was caught for the alleged offence on April 23 at about 3pm at a house at Au Yong Road.

The first charge said they possessed 5.45gm (gross weight) of nimetazepam, second charge (2.65gramme of methamphetamine), third charge (124.80gramme of nimetazepam), and the fourth charge (41.60gramme of methamphetamine).
