KUCHING: A woman lost several hundred ringgit in cash after falling prey to a gang of snatch thieves at Travillion Mall in Padungan here early yesterday morning.

The 21-year-old victim and several friends were walking towards her car at the parking lot around 3am when two men on a motorcycle rode past her from behind and grabbed her handbag.

The suspects were then joined by two other men on a second motorcycle, who were apparently waiting a short distance away, and sped off before the victim or her friends could get a proper description of the getaway machines.

Apart from the cash, which amounted to roughly RM800, the woman also lost a mobile phone, personal documents and her ATM card.

A police report of the incident has been lodged.

In a separate case, a welder suffered light injuries after he was attacked by a group of men while trying to break up an argument between two of his friends yesterday.

The 40-year-old victim was having drinks at a friend’s house in Bandar Baru Semariang when two of his friends started an argument shortly past midnight.

One of them then stormed out of the house but returned later with several other men armed with sticks, to confront the person of his contention.

According to the welder, he tried to play peacemaker but ended up being beaten by the group, who proceeded to steal his sling bag and damage his car parked outside the house.

He later sought treatment at the hospital for bruises to his head and body before lodging a police report over the incident.
