SMK Beaufort wins MAGGI cooking contest

KOTA KINABALU: SMK Beaufort yesterday became the champion of the MAGGI’s State-level Secondary School Cooking Competition held in SMK Bandaraya, Menggatal here.

Twelve schools from all over Sabah each sent three students to participate in the competition which aimed to cultivate interest in cooking among the school children by giving them a chance to participate in a cooking contest at district, state and national levels.

SMK Beaufort which was also the winner of the Most Creative Challenge, will be representing Sabah in the national-level Secondary School Cooking Competition on November 3 in Negeri Sembilan.

Azis Ismail, one of the winners from SMK Beaufort, said he and team mates, Azwan Akmal Wan Yayah and Madinah Saidin, loved to cook.

“We followed advices given by our teachers, and we are glad we won this competition,” Azis added.

SMK Beaufort took home RM1,000 cash and trophy, while SMK Bandaraya which came in second place and SMK Tambunan which was third, received RM500 and RM300 cash respectively plus a trophy each.

Supported by the Ministry of Education, the competition yesterday got the teams to prepare healthy dishes based on the theme ‘Homemade Lunch Menu Weekend Delights’ within 90 minutes.

The competition was graced by Datu Jamigul Datu Salin, the chief sector of the Human Development Sector from the State Education Department.
