KOTA KINABALU: hitz Sabah Drive-Thru announcer Cassie has many ways to express herself — on air, meet people and through music, fashion and art.

When Cassie moved back to Kota Kinabalu four years ago, she became friend with a local artist named Lybby Iliyas who taught her a lot about the art scene in Sabah.

“This is when my stencil love affair started … A stencil is a thin sheet of card, plastic, or metal with a pattern or letters cut out of it, used to produce the cut design on the surface below by the application of ink or paint through the holes.

“The first stencil I ever cut was a proboscis monkey. It took me two full days to finish cutting the stencil and it turned out so well I became obsessed! Thanks to Lybby, she helped me sharpen my stencil skills and we started spray painting! I did a piece at The Jungle Skatepark Likas, and then we became more ambitious and did life size stencils at Cuts Gallery, Centre Point and my office at Astro Radio!” she said.

Cassie added she could not stress how important it is for her to express herself by using words, fashion, art, music, photography or food.

“Be animated! The last thing you want to be is an implosive person … Allow yourself to let off some steam!” she said.

Cassie hosts the hitz Sabah Drive Thru from 4pm to 8pm every weekday and the one thing you would notice most about her is her deep and husky voice.

Besides being a radio personality, Cassie is also an emcee and aspiring DJ. She made her debut at the Borneo Dance Music Festival on December 28, 2013.
