KOTA KINABALU: The United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) will soon organise a ‘SAY NO TO HUDUD’ road show at all its 27 divisions to explain to its members on PAS’s plan to table two Private Member’s Bills in Parliament.

Upko information chief Albert Bingkasan said while welcoming a move by Sabah Barisan Nasional to have an “extensive discussion” about the issue, the road show was to avoid unnecessary misconception among its members nationwide.

“This is such a delicate issue. We are convinced the road show will enable us in Upko to have a clear understanding of the issue and at the same time propel us further in our maturing process in nation building,” said Bingkasan in a statement issued here yesterday.

Bingkasan said Upko was against the implementation of hudud law in the country because it was against the very foundation and intention of the Federal Constitution.

He said Malaysia was a secular state and it was a fact that the Upko stand all along and had been stressed again early last month by Upko’s acting president Datuk Madius Tangau.

On Sunday, Sabah Barisan Nasional secretary Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the ruling coalition would state their stand on the hudud law bills only after a thorough study.

Bingkasan said the road show to be handled by Upko Documentation and Information Bureau (UDIB), which he heads, would among others aim to inform the members about hudud and the Federal Constitution as a whole. — Bernama
