KUCHING: SPDP Youth doubts the authenticity of Wanita SPDP’s recent vote of no-confidence on party president Tan Sri William Mawan.

In a press statement issued here yesterday, its secretary-general Khairuddin Abdul Kadir said at best the motion was a reflection of certain leaders’ personal feelings that are tinted with ulterior motives.

“We refer to an article in The Borneo Post (May 6 2014) entitled ‘No-confidence vote reflects SPDP grassroots feelings’, which we think is unsavoury to our president and party image.

“We doubt if the Women wing’s call for the vote of no confidence against the president is the true reflection of the majority of grassroots’ feelings,” he said in the statement that was issued after a meeting with Youth members here.

As such, he said, SPDP Youth “treated the joint press statement of the Women and Youth wings containing strong words as bitter and mark their arrogance and insolence.

“Their personal attack on the president is disrespectful. We also doubt if the press statement was approved by the Youth exco or whether it is the true reflection of the majority of Youth members’ feeling as most exco members have no knowledge of it.”

Khairuddin said SPDP Youth found some Wanita and Youth members to be unreasonable and improper.

“We now demand them to call off their call for a vote of no confidence against the president. We support the readmission of the G4 elected representatives whom we now regard as our party members.”

He added that SPDP Youth supported Mawan’s move to reconcile with members of the G4 for the betterment of party unity, which is in line with the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) spirit on solidarity.

“As far as democracy and demand for explanation over the readmission of the G4 are concerned, the president has explained to the supreme council members not once but thrice “Firstly, during the chairman address at the Feb 23 supreme council meeting; secondly on March 6 during the meeting with Chief Minister, and last but not least on March 19 at Merdeka Palace after the ceremony to readmit the G4.

“The president also explained to branch leaders and councillors on March 27 at his ministry’s office. Mandate has been given by the supreme council members during the Feb 23 meeting to the president to deal with the readmission of the G4,” added Khairuddin.
