KUALA TERENGGANU: The media camped outside the Istana Nur Nadhirah here to await the possibility of the dissolution of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly following the latest political developments in the state.

The media swarmed the main entrance of the palace as early as 11 am as they anxiously await the arrival of newly appointed menteri besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman amid rumours that he would seek the consent of the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin to dissolve the state assembly.

Ahmad Razif, who is Seberang Takir assemblyman, was sworn in as the new menteri besar on Monday night following the resignation of Datuk Seri Ahmad Said as menteri besar.

Rumours have been circulating after Ahmad said, who is also Kijal assemblyman, and two other Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen from Umno — Ghazali Taib (Ajil) and Roslee Daud (Bukit Besi) — announced earlier yesterday that they had quit Umno and become independent elected representatives.

Roslee later withdrew his resignation from Umno.  This resulted in the BN representation in the state legislative assembly from 17 to 15. PAS has 14 representatives and PKR, one. — Bernama
