MIRI: Kelab Rekreasi Petroleum (KRP) will defend their title KRP Junior swimming invitational championship at the club’s pool in Lutong tomorrow.

KRP chief coach, Mohd Faizal @ Thomas Abdullah said the club would be sending 38 swimmers to compete against 97 swimmers from seven other teams.

The teams are Tenby International School, Gymkhana Club Miri (GCM), SJK (C) Chung Hua Krokop, SJK (C) Chung Hua Miri who all competed last year, and new teams – SK Lutong, SK Agama, and SK St. Columba.

“At least two gold medals are expected from our state’s swimmer, Fatin Farahanim, in the butterfly event. The others we don’t put any target as almost all are new swimmers ,” said Faizal to the Borneo Post yesterday.

A total of 94 events including the team relay will be held in the one-day meet which is divided into seven categories according to the age group of 12 years and below.

The championship will held from 8 am to 5 pm and admission for the public is free.

Faizal added that championship is to expose local swimmers for future competitions including the upcoming GCM inter-club meet next month.
