Teras will not consolidate BN’s strength – Chen

SIBU: Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) with 10 state legislators and a member of parliament will not in any way help to consolidate the strength of the Barisan Nasional.

Kanowit PKR secretary George Chen based his opinion on the fact that those assemblymen and MP were either sacked or had quit from their respective parties.

“Personally, I feel that this will only create more trouble for the BN component parties,” he told a press conference yesterday.

SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan and SUPP Sibu branch chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh were said to have spearheaded the move by the law-makers.

Mawan has mentioned that the multi-racial Teras will apply to become a BN component party, saying he believes Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem would work out a formula for it to be included as a BN-plus if the new party’s entry into BN faced resistance from SUPP or SPDP.

Meanwhile, Chen is of the opinion that legislators sacked by their parties should relinquish their positions in the state assembly.

He reasoned that voters to a very large extent had voted for the parties and not the individuals.

Chen said it was unlikely that SPDP and SUPP would accept Teras into the BN fold, and acceptance of Teras that was short of unanimity was against the spirit of the BN.
