SRI AMAN: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will carry out a study on the Risk Factor and Protection Against Youth Reproductive and Sexual Health in Sarawak.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said based on information  obtained from a  similar study carried out in the peninsula in 2011, her ministry had received empirical information on the reproductive and social problems faced by youths currently.

“The objective of the study is to find out the prevalence of unhealthy sexual behaviour among youths, identify risk factors pertaining to their sexual and reproductive health, and identify protective factors pertaining to sexual and reproductive health among youths,” she said.

She disclosed this  after attending the Teachers’ Day and Nurses Day Celebration Programme organised by Bank Rakyat Sri Aman branch.

Rohani who is also the Batang Lupar MP, said the outcome of the study would be used as the basis and guide in moulding a prosperous young generation.

“As an example, from the outcome of the study carried out in 2011, seven major factors had been identified as capable of tackling sexual and reproductive health among youths, namely, the socio demography, internal control, family, peers, school, community and the media,” she said. — Bernama
