LAHAD DATU: The government has allocated 30 multi-purpose boats for use in the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) to strengthen further the level of security in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone), said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Musa, who is also ESSCom chairman, said all the boats would be located at high risk spots to tighten security and curb cross border crimes such as kidnapping and smuggling.

“Currently, we have taken possession of two boats with the remaining to be delivered by the end of this month. It is hoped the assets would tighten further the national security system in the east coast of Sabah,” he said after visiting the General Operations Force Police Post in Pulau Adal near here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Musa called on the people in the state especially in the ESSZone area not to conspire with illegal immigrants or harbour them.

“The people need to quickly report cases of illegal immigrants found in their areas,” he said.

“It is an offence to conspire or protect illegal immigrants where stiff punishment could be meted out against people committing such offences,” he added.

Earlier, Musa, who is also Sabah Foundation Trust Fund chairman, had officiated the opening of Sabah Softwoods Hybrid Fertiliser Sdn Bhd, a fertilizer factory in the Palm Oil Industry Cluster (POIC), Lahad Datu.

He said the factory producing bio-chemical fertiliser is very relevant and supports the oil palm industry.

“The plant will help raise the socio-economic standard of the local residents in the district with jobs and would cascade its effect to the economy of the state,” he said. — Bernama
