SANDAKAN: The State Forestry Department has added an important landmark to its headquarters premises here yesterday with the inclusion of the newly built Heart of Borneo (HoB) Reception Centre.
Its Director Datuk Sam Mannan said the centre will be used to showcase the development and progress of the State’s HoB initiative, including the House of Deramakot, the model forest on Tropical Rainforest Management to the public and visitors to the department.
Further plans for the centre include providing an interactive and interpretative display such as kiosk, audio-visual and posters to complete the gallery, which is scheduled to be completed and open to the public before the end of this year.
“The reception centre will also serve as the ‘gateway’ to many other conservation initiatives in the state and become an environmental education facility to raise public awareness,” Sam added.
During the handing over ceremony yesterday, Sam congratulated the contractor, Pemborong Simatuoh and prime consultant, Arkitek A. Husin for an excellent job.
