KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah crime index from January to May dropped by 3.9 percent to 2,205 cases from 2,119 cases recorded over the corresponding period last year.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said of the 2,119 cases, 942 cases were solved.

“Housebreaking cases dropped from 682 to 521 cases while violent crimes dropped from 340 to 332 cases.

“Commercial crime dropped from 1,865 cases to 1,787 cases,” he told reporters after the monthly assembly of Sabah Police contingent here yesterday.

The drop in the number of cases allows Sabah Police to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) set under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA).

Earlier, in his speech, Hamza said to maintain the achievement recorded, Sabah Police would focus on five elements. They include to reduce the crime index by 5 to 10 percent per year, raise the security perception by 65 per cent, raise the prosecution of investigation papers to 35 per cent and raise public satisfaction to 85 per cent.

He also said the achievement set under the NKRA was also due to cooperation from the society. — Bernama
