KUCHING: Yayasan Sarawak takes pride in being the first organisation to build a synthetic field in the state with the aim to improve sports particularly football.

Yayasan Sarawak director Datu Abu Bakar Marzuki told reporters yesterday that the field was built at a cost of RM900,000 and the facility is open to the public, including youths, to play football.

“With the construction and the completion of the facility, we hope to develop human capital through sports because we feel the sports should be an avenue to develop human capital.”

“So we (Yayasan Sarawak) feel that it is important that we have a proper field for our youths,” said Abu Bakar who is also Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) deputy president.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem officiated at the event which was held in conjunction with Yayasan Sarawak’s 43rd anniversary celebrations.

Among those present were Adenan’s wife Puan Sri Datu Jamilah Anu, Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Talip Zulpilip and State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani.

Abu Bakar added that the project, which started in the middle of last year, was completed last month.

Asked on the rental of the facility, Abu Bakar stressed that the details are yet to be finalised but assured that it would be reasonable.
