PERAK: Perak chief minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir announced that Sultan Perak Sultan Azlan Shah, 86, passed away at 1.38pm today.
A lawyer by profession, Sultan Azlan Shah served as a judge, and the Lord President of the Federal Court before becoming the Sultan of Perak. Later he would become the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 26 April 1989 to 25 April 1994.
He is survived by his wife Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Bainun Muhammad Ali.
The royal couple had five children together: Raja Nazrin Shah, who is also Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Perak, Raja Dato’ Seri Azureen, Raja Dato’ Seri Ashman Shah, Raja Eleena and Raja Yong Sofia. – Bernama
