Soon Kai’s note states: “In my opinion, the matter of how to handle this property should be left to the decision of the shareholders, who are the legal owner of this building.”

SIBU: The tussle over three shoplots that house Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) branch office here saddens former chairman of the branch, Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The shops are registered under Twinswood Sdn Bhd but a newspaper report claimed the 50 shareholders of Twinswood were merely trustees of the buildings for SUPP.

Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, Wong said if there was a legal document stating that the company was merely holding trust of the shops for SUPP, the matter could be easily solved but there was no such legal document.

“Do not kick up such a fuss now. The property is under the charge of 50 shareholders of Twinswood. We shall hold an AGM to decide how to deal with it.”

Wong added that the tussle for the ownership of the shops had been building up since he received a letter from SUPP treasurer Datuk David Teng on Jan 5 demanding the building be returned to the party.

Wong who is the chairman of Twinswood said he had sought the advice of former SUPP president Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Dr Wong Soon Kai.

“Soon Kai is a respected leader of SUPP. There is none who knows the property management of this better than him, as he had been there as the leader (dealing with the property) from day 1.”

He said when he met Soon Kai, the former party leader had said in a written note:  “The property is not registered under SUPP as the owner, butunder the 50 shareholders, and therefore, all decisions regarding the property should come from the shareholders.”

To prove his claim, Wong showed the written note of Soon Kai to the reporters.

“Leave it to the decision of the 50 shareholders during the Twinswood AGM,” he said.
