MIRI: The Federal government have been urged to channel fund allocation earlier for Sarawak to host the 19th edition of Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) in 2016.

The appeal came from Assistant Minister of Sport Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“We already experienced technical problems in Pahang (2012 Sukma) and Perlis (2014 Sukma) particularly in terms of the facilities or event venues,” he said when met recently.

Lee, who is also the head of the Sarawak contingent in Perlis, added that such problems as the delay in completion of Kompleks Renang Kangar in Perlis should never happen.

“Therefore, to prepare Sarawak as host venue for the 19th Sukma, we hope the federal government will pump the fund allocation as early as possible by this year,” he urged.

This, he stressed, is to ensure thorough preparation and to have standard quality and safety.

Commenting on the performance of the state contingent performance in Perlis, Lee said he is proud with the performance and commitment of the athletes.

Sarawak was lying third in the overall medal tally by the end of Tuesday.

Lee is confident that continued intensive training and professional coaches can help Sarawak to shine in 2016.
