Najib launches fund for enhancement of primary school education

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday launched the MRCB Tabung Generasi Global, a fund to promote the enhancement of primary school education in Malaysia.

MRCB Group managing director Datuk Mohamad Salim Fateh Din said the fund will assist to enrich the learning environment for about 3,000 students in the seven primary schools adopted by MRCB.

“The schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pengkalan Jaya and SK Kuala Perai in Pulau Pinang, SK Iskandar Perdana in Perak, SK La Salle 1 and 2 in Brickfields, SK Indera Shahbandar and SK
Serandu in Pahang,” he told reporters after the launching of the fund here.

Mohamad Salim said the fund will be generated by MRCB’s subsidiaries with a minimum of RM500,000 every year.

During the launching, Najib had deposited a RM500,000 cheque from MRCB as the group’s sponsorship for the initiative.

Earlier, Najib, who arrived at the Nu Sentral Mall, another project by MRCB which was opened to public in March this year and located near Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station, spend his time visiting the shopping mall and the station.

Najib later was briefed by MRCB Group chief operating officer Mohd Imran Mohamad Salim on the group’s proposed regeneration plans for the station into a truly international class transportation hub.

The station currently serves up to 160,000 people every day, comprising commuters and a sizeable volume of tourists, adding up to about 58.4 million users in a single year. — Bernama
