PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians are advised to defer or re-schedule their non-essential travel plans to Libya due to the country’s political unrest.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman in a statement here yesterday said Wisma Putra was currently coordinating with the Malaysian Embassy in Tripoli to closely monitor the situation in the country.

He said the Malaysian Government was deeply concerned with the ongoing conflict and political unrest in Libya.

He said, according to the Malaysian Embassy in Tripoli, there were approximately 24 Malaysians currently registered with the embassy.

“All of them are reported to be safe. They have been advised to adhere to the security guidelines issued by the Embassy of Malaysia in Tripoli and the local authorities,” he added.

Anifah said Malaysia hoped an amicable solution could be achieved and urged all parties to refrain from violence.

“Malaysia is of the view that the Libyan authorities need to seriously convene dialogue with all involved parties for reconciliation and formulate a workable and durable solution to end the conflict,” he said. — Bernama
