Taib, Ragad celebrate Agong’s birthday with tea reception

Taib and other dignitaries tour the ‘Our King Exhibition’ at Wisma Bintulu.

BINTULU: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib yesterday attended a tea reception at Wisma Bintulu to celebrate the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday.

More than 1,000 guests comprising state ministers, dignitaries, heads and senior officials of state and federal governments, businessmen and community leaders attended the grand gathering.

The ceremony began with greetings from Taib and Ragad to the King, followed by the presentation of donations to 150 individuals.

Thirty-four of the recipients were senior citizens, 66 children, three bedridden patients, 21 disabled (OKU) employees and two unemployed OKUs. The remaining 24 received ‘general assistance’ aid. The guests were later entertained to a ‘live’ band performance by local singers.

The tea-reception ceremony ended after the launching of the ‘Our King Exhibition’ by Taib at the lobby of Wisma Bintulu.

Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu and his wife Dato Sri Empiang, Social Development Minister and the organising chairman Tan Sri William Mawan, Minister of Women, Family and Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
