BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: The government of Banjarmasin is trying to free the region from slums to look beautiful and comfortable, Antaranews reported.

The plans to liberate the region from slums gains great support from the local assembly (DPRD), said Chandra Bayu of Commission III of the local DPRD on Saturday.

Based on the data, said Chandra, from all regions of Banjarmasin there are three categories of slums. Slum with mild category has an extensive of 178.13 hectares, medium slum ​​335.54 hectares, and 43.91 hectares of its territory is heavy slum. Banjarmasin has an area of ​​98 square kilometers.

“Based on Spatial Planning, Housing and Human Settlements Agency report some time ago, the highest slum is in North Banjarmasin area as much as 14 points, which are spread throughout the Village Surgi Mufti and Alalak Village,” he said.

With still many slums, the municipal government needs to create a program that is planned and sustainable.

Head of the Regional Planning Board of Banjarmasin Fajar Desira said it is targeting in the next five years Banjarmasin is free of slums.
