BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police confirmed that the death of a 26-year-old man under remand at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital on Saturday was due to epileptic seizure.

Seberang Perai Tengah Police deputy chief Supt Baharom Abu said the man, who was warded at the hospital since Wednesday, was pronounced dead at 7.05pm.

“He was having breathing difficulties and epileptic seizures during arrest and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

“The post mortem conducted by the pathology expert, Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh, revealed that he died due to lack of oxygen to the brain, causing him to suffer breathing difficulties or epilepsy,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said the man and his 31-year-old friend were arrested at 8.15pm on June 2 while stealing 12 pig iron from a factory in Perai. — Bernama
