KUNAK: A married couple were burnt to death after their house at Kampung Kunak Jaya was destroyed in a fire early yesterday morning.
The charred remains of Jumadi Sakka and his wife, Dahati Juma, both in their 50s, were found in the kitchen of the house.
Public relations officer of State Fire and Rescue Department, Mohd Affendy K Ramin, said his department received a distress call at 1.08am and rushed a fire engine with six firefighters to the scene.
“Upon arrival at the scene seven minutes later, the fire was at its peak. However we managed to control the blaze from spreading to other premises about 30 minutes later.
“The fire was completely extinguished at 2.12am and the charred remains of the couple believed to have been trapped inside the house, were found in the kitchen area,” he said when contacted.
Affendy added that the bodies were taken to the Kunak Hospital for further action while the cause of the fire and losses were still under investigation.
