18-month jail for assault and threat

KUCHING: Threatening his biological father and assaulting his adopted brother while intoxicated last month landed a man in jail for a stay of 18 months.

Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman meted out the punishment after the accused person Mohamad Kamil Wahab, 34, pleaded guilty to the offences.

He admitted threatening to kill his father Wahab Zen, 73, and voluntarily causing hurt to his adopted brother Mokshen Yasin, 20, with a knife.

The offences were committed in the father’s house at Kampung Bintawa Tengah in Petra Jaya here around 3pm on May 29.

Around 7pm that day, he went to Mokshen’s house and acted aggressively towards him, injuring his shoulder and left elbow with a knife.

Kamil was sentenced to six months’ jail for intimidation, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, and 12 months’ jail for assault under Section 324 of the same code.

The court ordered the jail terms to run consecutively.

Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted while Kamil was not represented.
