PPIM: Let police probe Cadbury case

KUALA LUMPUR: The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) has advised Cadbury chocolate fans who still doubt its halal status to wait for the outcome of the police investigation.

PPIM chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan said many consumers were still confused about the halal status of two Cadbury products, the Roast Almond and Hazelnut, even though it had received the halal certification from the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim).

“We made a police report on Tuesday to find out how the porcine DNA was found in the sample taken by the Health Ministry (KKM), so let the police conduct their investigations.

There could be elements of sabotage or protest,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

He said the difference in outcome issued by the KKM and Jakim caused consumers to be confused about the halal status of the two Cadbury products which were said to contain Porcine DNA.

“Like other Malaysians, I want a more definite statement on this issue. The sample taken by Jakim from the factory had no porcine DNA…then we should just buy the chocolate from the factory,” he said.

The Health Ministry had earlier said two of the three samples of Cadbury chocolate contained porcine DNA.

However, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom later said that the analysis done by the Chemistry Department on the Cadbury chocolate products — Roast Almond and Hazelnut – were confirmed as not containing porcine DNA. — Bernama
