CM gets ‘Contribution to People Devt Award’

KUCHING: Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem was yesterday honoured with the ‘Lifetime Contribution to People Development Award’ by Asia HRD Awards 2014 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the people’s development.

A special ceremony was held at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia where Bahrain’s former Minister of Works Fahmi Ali Al Jowder, who is also a member of the Asia HRD Awards 2014 committee, was on hand to confer the exclusive award to Adenan.

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani and the founder of Asia HRD Awards Datuk R Palan were among those present.

“Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan has made extraordinary contributions to people development such as in his role as chairman of Yayasan Sarawak. The state’s education industry has flourished with the availability of international higher learning institutions such as Swinburne University of Technology and Curtin University of Technology,” Palan said when met after the function.

He also commended Adenan who in his capacity as the Chief Minister, for demonstrating leadership skill in ensuring that there’s a skilled Sarawak population that was employable.

The ‘Lifetime Contribution to People Development Award’ is conferred to individuals who have pioneered selflessly to promote the cause of learning initiatives that have impacted the entire community in a significant way.

Among the distinguished individuals who have received the award in the past included the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Philippines former president General (r) Fidel V Ramos, AirAsia group chief executive officer Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Tony Fernandes and Fahmi Ali.

The Asia HRD Awards honours leaders, HR professionals and practitioners at all levels who have significantly impacted the community, organisations or society as a whole.

Launched in 2003 with five recipients from two countries, it has today become a prestigious annual event with the Asia HRD Awards Hall of Fame drawing a total of 147 recipients from 16 countries.
