KUCHING: The PGM Tour, now well into its fourth season, received a big confidence boost on Monday when Vascory Land Sdn Bhd marked their position as title sponsor of this week’s event on the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour by handing over the RM300,000 prize money.

With 17 events already played on the Tour this year, the PGM Vascory Templer Park Championship at the Templer Park Country Club here in Rawang, scheduled for June 11-14, is clear evidence of the Tour moving in the right direction and continuing with its objective of providing local pros with the opportunity to feature on a circuit that consistently hosts events with growing prize purses.

“We have known for some time now that the PGM Tour has grown remarkably over the past four years and their efforts in developing the sport of golf in Malaysia are to be commended,” said Vascory Land Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Syed Mohd Yusof Tun Syed Nasir.

“And in line with this, Vascory’s main objective is to firstly become part of the bigger picture to help promote the sport, which has tremendous potential in Malaysia and to cultivate a new generation of golfers.”

PGM chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, in noting the contribution and thanking the sponsors, said: “Exposing Malaysian professional golfers to better competition, especially international players from the Asian Development Tour (ADT), provides them with the chance of earning world ranking points.

This in turn opens the door for them to advance their chances of competing in the Olympics 2016.

“We are very proud of our young talents who are gaining more confidence playing against the foreigners, and that has resulted in some Malaysians having moved up the world rankings,” added Sarji.

This year’s PGM Tour has 36 tournaments in total, 12 of which are co-sanctioned with ADT and will be taking place in Malaysia.
