Residents riled up by poor rubbish collection

BINTULU: Poor disposalscavenging service especially in some residential and commercial areas by the appointed contractor here is something that Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) needs to address with commitment.

The efficiency and capability of the contractor to collect wastes on schedule has come into question as even their working rate seems yet to meet the basic standard of professional scavengers.

In fact, the public has posted photos and harsh comments in social media to express their dissatisfaction with the local authority for its failure in managing the issue.

But some comments were directed at several house owners, who were lambasted for failing to handle their household wastes properly.

Some say it has been expected that ever since BDA took over the rubbish collection, glitches by the management would happen and the residents should be prepared.

It is thus expected that every household take their own initiative by managing their domestic wastes properly; putting them in plastic bags which are then tied neatly rather than just throwing them into the bins which might cause air pollution and endanger their own health.

No doubt, the local authority has been doing its best to give good scavenging services but there is still room for improvement.

Considering that it is not an easy task to please everyone, the least the authority can do is to ensure that rubbish and wastes are collected on schedule.

Even Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing spoke about the issue recently, urging BDA to improve their services.

Meanwhile, BDA Environment Section senior manager Wan Ibrahim Wan Ali when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday said they would have a meeting with BDA general manager Datu Mohidin Ishak and other relevant authorities soon to further discuss the issue.

“For the time being, I can’t give any comment or speak on behalf of BDA on this issue but we will inform you in due time,” he added.
