SIBU: Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday handed out minor rural projects (MRP) funds amounting to RM636,000 to 36 organisations.

He said the distribution of the fund was his first for this year.

“There will be about four more,” he enthused.

Before the distribution held at his office in Wisma Sanyan, Wong urged the Chinese community here to rally behind the Barisan Nasional government to ensure better care from the government.

Wong, who is also Minister of Local Government and Community Development, said Sibu people had lost RM12 million in MRP fund yearly when they voted for the opposition in state and parliamentary elections.

He thus urged the voters to give their decision to support the opposition a good second thought.

“Think for ourselves and our posterity. There is still plenty to be done for the good of our town. And, you can only count on the BN government for that,” he said.

Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King and Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman Oliver Kuo were among those present at the function.
