PORT KLANG: Sixty former members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Klang, who quit the party four years ago, found their names still listed as voters for the party polls.

Former Taman Permai PKR branch chief A Prakash said it was feared that some irresponsible quarters would use their names as phantom voters to win the contest at the party polls.

“They are accusing the Election Commission and Barisan Nasional as having used phantom voters, but they are worse.

“They should have removed the names of members who had quit the party, but upon inspection, our names are still listed in their system,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said the names were of 30 former PKR members from Taman Permai and 30 others from Kota Pendamar, who also received invitation letters from the party to cast their votes at the party election. Prakash also said that there was a possibility that certain quarters had been paying their annual membership fees to ensure that they would remain as active members of the party.

As such, he urged PKR leadership to remove the names of the 60 former PKR members from the list or face a legal action.

“We will come to the Klang division party re-election this Sunday to check whether our names are still in the voters’ list. If our names are not removed, we will not hesitate to lodge a police report,” he added.

A total of 35 PKR branches are holding re-elections after the Central Election Committee cancelled their election process for various reasons including sabotage and non-transparency. — Bernama
