‘No proof on cops dealing drugs’

KUCHING: The Home Ministry will not compromise on any police personnel who are involved in drug trafficking and distribution.

According to Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, stern action will be taken against any personnel if they are found guilty.

He said this in response to a recent claim by a Sarawakian opposition leader that a few bad hats are present in the state police force by delving into drug trafficking.

“If there is proof, come forward with it. Do not make false claims for political mileage,” said Wan Junaidi to reporters during a function in Demak Laut here yesterday.

He also said Sarawak is among the lowest in Malaysia to record the number of drug abuse cases.

Meanwhile, he also said that the Home Ministry beginning next year will be focusing to set up more Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex along the Malaysian borders to curb smuggling and drug trafficking.

He also said that it is baseless to claim that police officers stationed at the Malaysian borders are turning a blind eye to the drug trade happening under their nose.
